LIBRARY FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Challenge: Design a new public library for the performing arts

This new branch of the New York Public Library System focuses on the performing arts. As the site sites near the Hudson River and located in a bustling neighborhood. I analyzed the noise level around the perimeter to best decide how to separate the private from the public. In previous study of a shelving unit of a sorority library, it revealed that the volume of textbooks, notebooks, and note cards are not just supported by the casing unit but are interdependent of each other. The space was not optimally used. However, the negative space between the volume translate well for programmatic opportunities for the public. The performing arts library does not need only a place to exercise the mind but also a place where the public can perform and exercise their body. The library has reserved rooftops for outdoor activities accordingly.
